Thanksgiving Thoughts

Ah Thanksgiving, the one time of the year where total indulgence is encouraged and expected. Families come together, turkey is trimmed, belts are loosened, naps are taken, football is watched, and Black Friday game plans are hatched.

It has been ~40 years since we’ve made hand-shaped turkey drawings or participated in the school play about the first Thanksgiving, so we decided to do a little research and reacquaint ourselves with why we celebrate this holiday. We found that the holiday as promoted in American history, is a celebration of the harvest with a nod toward thanking God for the season’s bounty. But there is A LOT more to it, so we encourage you to read all about it when you have some time.

The holiday’s observance (as we know it today) was signed into law December 26, 1941, by President Roosevelt making the date of Thanksgiving a matter of federal law and fixing the day as the fourth Thursday of November (also giving retailers a longer selling season).

What hasn’t changed tradition-wise for 393 years, is the consumption of turkey. Roasted turkey is a mainstay menu item, paired with other table stars like mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet corn, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie.

Other typical Thanksgiving traditions include:

We can’t help but wonder how Thanksgiving might change. One thing we know is that with the advent of Pinterest, we have much more options for our leftover Turkey.

TidalWalk Sales Ride A Wave of Success

At this time last year, the window of opportunity was wide open to buy a beautiful new home in one of the Wilmington-area’s last remaining coastal neighborhoods. But as buyers have discovered the natural beauty, private beach, boating access andamenities in the new home community of TidalWalk, the window to own a brand new home here has quickly begun to close.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, sales of new homes rallied nationally in August to a six-year high, and TidalWalk has strongly reflected the national trend in recent months. But even though only seven opportunities remain in the “Sands” neighborhood of the community, TidalWalk has many excellent options for lots in the “Beaches” neighborhood. New choices in “Cottages” are also coming soon.

Beyond increased demand for coastal living, a variety of factors have come together to bring eager buyers directly to this great new coastal community. For starters, TidalWalk’s docks, private beach, clubhouse and pool have become legendary for hosting community events and offering a gateway to fun on the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. In addition, Fonville Morisey Barefoot (FMB) came aboard in 2014 and brought a wealth of knowledge and experience about the marketplace and the advantages of living on this section of the Atlantic coast. “We’ve definitely made an impact,” said FMB Vice President Blake Frazier. “Our relationships with some of the area’s finest builders as well as our knowledge of coastal developments has brought extra clarity to the vision for TidalWalk. The recent increases in our sales activity and excitement in our customer base reflects these positive changes.”

“We are excited about the continued improvement in the coastal markets and are especially eager to have 70 West start building in TidalWalk,” said FMB President Audie Barefoot. “They will be a great addition to the present builder team.” 70 West is offering 16 homesites spread throughout the TidalWalk community. Their model home, set to open in early 2015 for touring, will offer information about floorplans ranging from 2,000 – 3,770 square feet and starting in the $330s.

Other builders have also made a big difference in TidalWalk’s sales success by offering a wider range of price points than in most coastal communities. Custom coastal cottage builder Laurel Homes of Wilmington, Best of Houzz winner Plantation Building Corp, and ATD Construction, family-owned for more than four decades, are all busy putting their special architectural stamp on the community and meeting the needs of buyers in all stages of life. “We are also very happy about the interest we are seeing in the waterfront homesites in TidalWalk,” Barefoot said.

Unlike many coastal communities that are a long drive from city advantages, TidalWalk gives residents easy access to historic Wilmington, N.C.’s Riverwalk along the Cape Fear River, plus water tours, museums, theaters, historic homes and beautiful beach towns.

If you’ve long dreamed of giving your children or grandchildren the unmatched lifestyle advantages of sunny days filled with boating, fishing, crabbing and enjoying the natural wonder of a life near the sea, now is the time to explore new home and homesite purchase opportunities in TidalWalk.
